Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) says allegations of misconduct against an unnamed U.S. senator have been formally referred to the Senate Ethics Committee, raising new questions about accountability on Capitol Hill.

The announcement comes as Congress is already reeling from a wave of high-profile scandals involving lawmakers in both chambers.

Luna: Senate Has ‘Its Own Trash to Take Out’

Luna revealed the referral in a post on X, signaling that the allegations are serious enough to warrant immediate review.

“[It] seems like the Senate has its own trash to take out,” Luna wrote.

“[Senate Majority Leader John Thune] You need to look into the allegations against one of your Senators, it’s very disturbing.

“My chief will be contacting your chief.”

The Florida congresswoman did not identify the senator or detail the nature of the allegations.

Thune Confirms Referral to Ethics Committee

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) confirmed that his office received the information and moved it to the appropriate channel.

“I don’t know what the particulars are about this,” Thune said.

“I have not — all I know is that we referred it to the proper authorities, which, in this case, would be the Senate Ethics Committee.”

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), who chairs the committee, declined to comment on the matter.

“I talk zero about ethics,” Lankford said.

Lankford added that the panel continues to operate under the same procedures put in place following reforms passed in 2018.

“We still do our work, as we always have.”

Scandal Fallout Continues on Capitol Hill

The new allegations come amid a broader reckoning in Congress over misconduct and internal accountability.

Former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) resigned earlier this week after ending his California gubernatorial campaign.

The resignation followed multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and violent assault.

He has denied the claims and said he would fight them.

However, allegations against Swalwell are still emerging.

Former Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) also stepped down after admitting to an affair with a former staffer, while denying a separate allegation.

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), a former ally of Swalwell, said the situation underscores potential gaps in the system.

“Because clearly there’s holes in this,” Gallego said.

“Or number two, that we haven’t created an environment through the legislation to make women, especially staffers, feel that they could come and talk to somebody and not have any repercussions.”

Gallego insists he had no knowledge of “best friend” Swalwell’s behavior.

The senator claims he was “manipulated” by Swalwell and argues that he was living a “double life.”
