The Hutchison effect is a collection of anomalous phenomena claimed to have been accidentally discovered by self-taught Canadian experimenter John Hutchison in 1979.
Heavy objects and solid metal bars allegedly rise into the air or float without external mechanical support. Dissimilar materials, such as metal and wood, purportedly fuse together at room temperature.
Solid metals reportedly become soft like jelly, twist, or bend without the application of external heat. Metals spontaneously shatter, fracture, or experience explosive molecular disruption.
Hutchison asserted that these effects resulted from complex, chaotic electromagnetic interference fields. His experimental setups typically featured a mix of high-voltage electrostatic generators (like Van de Graaff generators), multiple Tesla coils, and radio-frequency (RF) transmitters operating simultaneously in a confined space.
Proponents often speculated that the apparatus tapped into zero-point energy or longitudinal electromagnetic waves.
Mainstream science and the physics community dismiss the Hutchison effect as pseudoscience, a hoax, or a magic trick: Independent researchers and qualified physicists have never been able to replicate the results under controlled, peer-reviewed laboratory conditions.
