“The latest filings by Special Counsel John Durham reveal that lawyers for the Hillary Clinton Campaign now represent Christopher Steele primary sub-source Igor Danchenko.” Danchenko was arrested on November 3, 2021 for giving multiple false statements to federal officials during his 2017 interviews with the FBI. Igor Danchenko lied about his sources, his trips to Russia, and his falsified contacts with Belarusian reporter/businessman, Sergei Millian, alleging a Trump-Russia conspiracy. Millian has long denied placing the call. Durham alleges that one of Danchenko’s real sources was Charles Dolan Jr., who served in various leadership positions to elect Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996 campaigns and was an advisor to Hillary Clinton’s run for president in 2016.
In the Danchenko indictment, Dolan stated that he thought Danchenko worked for the FSB (Federal Security of the Russian Federation) and was a Hillary Clinton supporter. He had a special interest in Hillary victory, stating that Dolan would “take me to the state department if she wins.” Danchenko later falsely denied to the FBI that Dolan had provided him with information. Durham also believes that Danchenko, the Steele source, and Dolan worked together to get dirt and intel on Trump. Danchenko also lied about when he stayed at a hotel in Moscow in 2016. Overall Danchenko faces 5 false statement charges. Finally, Danchenko was a go-between, providing Steele with information from Dolan.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid for the dossiers and the work by Fusion GPS. This was arranged through their attorneys at Perkins Cole, notably Mark Elias and Michael Sussman. Elias left the firm this past summer. Sussman was indicted in September 2021 by Durham for giving false statements to the Alfa Bank/Trump hoax. It is highly likely that the Clinton campaign was receiving updates on the Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele work, once they hired Perkins Cole in the spring of 2016. It was the Clinton’s idea to link Trump and Russia in the first place. According to the New York Times article in September, Durham “has been pursuing a theory that the Clinton campaign used Perkins Cole to submit dubious information to the FBI about Russia and President Trump.” According to Durham’s latest filing, Stuart Sears is a partner of the law firm Schertler Onorato Mead & Sears. This firm is the 2016 “Hillary for America” presidential campaign, as well as multiple former members of it.
In conclusion, the Danchenko trial may raise some questions. Did the Clinton Campaign have knowledge of information in the Fusion GPS reports sourced by Danchenko? Was the Clinton Campaign aware of Danchenko’s collection methods and sub-sources? Were there meetings or communications between the Clinton Campaign, Fusion GPS and Steele involving Danchenko? Did he have knowledge of the Clinton Campaign’s role in activities surrounding the Fusion GPS reports and the extent in which it’s representatives directed or controlled Danchenko’s activities? Durham raises the possibility that members of the Clinton Campaign may be called to testify in the Danchenko trial.
