A forensic investigation commissioned by Blaze News has identified former U.S. Capitol Police officer Shauni Rae Kerkhoff as a near-perfect match for the long-sought pipe bomb suspect from January 6, 2021, according to multiple sources.
Kerkhoff’s unique gait—a combination of her stride, slight limp, and walking pattern—matches the movements captured in the now-cleared video footage of the hoodie-wearing bomb suspect with 94% to 98% similarity, raising pressing questions about the events surrounding the infamous Capitol Hill pipe bombs.
The suspect in question planted pipe bombs near the Democratic National Committee and the Capitol Hill Club on the night before the Capitol riot. Hours after the devices were discovered, police resources were diverted, coinciding with the breach of the Capitol complex. Kerkhoff, 31, served in the Capitol Police for over four years, including duties with the Civil Disturbance Unit, before transitioning to a security role at the CIA’s campus, confirmed by agency spokesperson Liz Lyons.
An analyst involved in the gait comparison told Blaze News that, while the computer algorithm produced a 94% match, visual inspection pushed that confidence closer to 98%, given Kerkhoff’s distinctive limp caused by a college soccer injury. This injury, thoroughly documented from her time as a collegiate athlete, aided the forensic match. Matches were drawn by analyzing video footage from Capitol security cameras and unedited scene captures from the night of January 5.
Former FBI Special Agent Kyle Seraphin, who once observed surveillance operations on the suspect’s neighborhood days after the attacks, claims that investigative teams were pulled off the case abruptly, raising concerns of an intentional cover-up. “The FBI put us one door away from the pipe bomber within days of January 6, and we were deliberately pulled away for no logical investigative reason,” Seraphin told Blaze News. “Everything about that tells me that they were involved in a cover-up and have been since day one. They were f—ing in on it.”

In the wake of these revelations, criticism has been leveled at federal investigative agencies, particularly their failure to apprehend the suspect despite extensive leads and a substantial $500,000 reward. Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund expressed surprise at the claims, asserting he had “no knowledge” of any officer being involved in the bomb plot and questioned the legitimacy of any law enforcement participation.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has been vocal in questioning federal agencies’ handling of the investigation. On November 8, he tweeted, “America is waking up today to learn that Capitol Police turned CIA orchestrated the pipe bombs on January 6th, and the FBI has covered it up for over four years.”
America is waking up today to learn that Capitol Police turned CIA orchestrated the pipe bombs on January 6th, and the FBI has covered it up for over fours years. I questioned FBI Dir. Wray, ATF Dir. Dettlebach, and FBI asst Dir. (over DC) D’Antuono under oath. All played dumb. https://t.co/mrqtNy7fP6

The identification of a former Capitol Police officer as the pipe bomb suspect would dramatically recast the narrative of January 6, undercutting established portrayals that external insurrectionists alone were responsible. The prospect of insider involvement underscores the need for an honest and thorough reckoning and raises suspicion about institutional motives for covering up inconvenient truths.
As of now, neither the FBI nor the Department of Justice has confirmed these forensic findings. Ed Martin, a DOJ special attorney, stated the department has not officially identified Kerkhoff as the suspect, reflecting an ongoing investigative stance and denying allegations of confirmed identification.
