Israeli army launches massive arrest, eviction campaign in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have launched a massive arrest raid into the occupied West Bank’s Qalandia refugee camp, north of Jerusalem – detaining dozens of Palestinians on 27 April.

Another video has emerged of Israeli soldiers detaining a child. The incident occurred in the Old City of Nablus, a site of continued Israeli violence against Palestinians.

The raid began overnight on Sunday and extended into Monday. Israeli troops stormed several Palestinian homes, evicting over a dozen families and transforming an entire civilian area into a military interrogation zone.

Since the early morning hours, Israeli forces have been carrying out a large-scale detention campaign and raids in the towns of Al-Ram and Kafr Aqab, as well as Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem.

At least 35 Palestinians have been detained throughout the 15-hour raid, which remains ongoing, WAFA news agency reported on early Monday evening.

“Demolition notices were issued against dozens of residential and commercial structures in the area, in parallel with the ongoing military escalation,” the Palestinian outlet said.

WAFA added, citing a statement from the Jerusalem Governorate, that Israeli troops have “been conducting raids since early dawn, storming homes, forcing residents out, and turning several houses into military outposts amid heavy deployment and drone activity.”

“Several injuries were reported, including live-fire injuries, beatings, and cases of tear gas inhalation, as Israeli forces fired live ammunition and gas canisters inside residential neighborhoods,” the Jerusalem Governorate said.

According to local media, more Israeli military reinforcements are being deployed.

Recently released prisoners Majd and Ahmed Abu Gharbiya were rearrested earlier during a separate incursion into the towns of Kafr Aqab and Al-Ram.

Israeli troops also stormed occupied Nablus and its Old City. The raids coincided with a significant uptick in settler violence and vandalism.

“Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes in the village of Jalud, south of Nablus, for the second time on Monday. Large groups of colonists stormed residential areas in the village, surrounding several young men inside a barn, with their fate remaining unknown … Earlier in the day, a child and a young man were injured during a previous colonist attack on the same village,” local sources told WAFA.

Settler violence has been on a continuous rise since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government came to power in late 2022. Since then, Israeli authorities have accelerated plans for an illegal annexation of the West Bank, which was occupied in 1967.

In February, the Israeli government approved a land registration process allowing Israel to claim territory in the occupied West Bank as “state property” if Palestinians cannot prove ownership – a move that has been described as “de facto annexation.”

A few weeks later, dozens of new illegal settlements were approved.

Israel’s cabinet had voted in 2025 to take full responsibility for land registration in Area C of the occupied West Bank, which is an area comprising around 60 percent of the territory and home to the vast majority of Israeli settlements.

A bill passed by the Knesset in October last year also called for applying Israeli “sovereignty” over all settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the territory since 7 October 2023. UN experts warned in March 2026 that Israel’s policy of genocide was extending into the West Bank.
