Leaked text messages published by Project Veritas have sparked a fresh controversy over alleged political blackmail targeting conservative commentator Candace Owens.

The messages, which Project Veritas says involve Mary Barr Daly, daughter of former Attorney General William Barr and a former senior Department of Justice official, appear to outline efforts to damage Owens’ reputation and even reference a separate operation involving an underage girl.

According to International Business Times, the leaked texts circulated widely online and quickly triggered debate about their origin and authenticity. In the screenshots promoted by Project Veritas, Daly is allegedly shown discussing the need to move aggressively against Owens. One line cited by the outlet states, “We need to blackmail her faster,” while another reportedly describes Owens as “the harder one” and calls for associates to “destroy her reputation before she gets to us.”

Project Veritas claimed Daly’s representatives denied the texts are real but noted that “representation for Mary Barr stated the texts are fabricated” and, as the group put it, none of the named parties have yet followed through on legal threats.

The alleged messages also referenced a separate scheme involving an underage girl aimed at an unnamed target, which provoked immediate alarm on social media. IBTimes reports that one commenter described using an underage girl as leverage as “literally EPSTEIN behavior,” while others questioned who the intended target might have been and where such a minor would come from.

Film producer and commentator Lauren Witzke defended Project Veritas and amplified the allegations in a widely shared X post. Witzke wrote that Project Veritas had exposed how “AG Bill Barr’s daughter was trying to set up and blackmail Candace Owens when she was a senior DOJ official,” and claimed Daly also “was trying to set up someone with an underage girl to blackmail him.”

Project Veritas framed the matter in broader terms, asserting that Owens “has been a target of governments for years.” In its own X post promoting the screenshots, the group highlighted the alleged Daly line, saying, “We need to blackmail her (Candace) faster” and identifying Daly as a “former senior DOJ official, daughter of former AG Bill Barr.”

Online reaction to the leak has been sharply divided. Some users cited in the IBTimes report argued the texts reveal a “government willing to engage in covert operations against citizens,” with one commenter calling it “insane that they weren’t arrested for conspiring against American citizens.”

As of now, the authenticity of the texts remains unverified. Daly’s side has reportedly branded the messages as fabricated, while Project Veritas and its supporters insist they expose a coordinated effort to neutralize a high-profile critic of the establishment.
