A former senior U.S. nuclear official is warning that federal investigations into a growing number of dead and missing scientists could uncover alarming new details, as scrutiny intensifies over cases tied to sensitive aerospace and defense programs.
According to reports, investigators are now examining a series of deaths and disappearances involving researchers connected to nuclear, space, and classified government work, raising fresh concerns about whether the cases are truly isolated.
Former Nuclear Official Signals Troubling Possibilities
Frank Rose, who served as deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), cautioned that deeper investigations could reveal unexpected findings.
“Crazy stuff happens all the time,” Rose said.
“Every day something went wrong, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Rose added, “It wouldn’t surprise me if you look into each of these individual cases, there’s probably something more once you dig into it.”
While he said he has not seen direct evidence linking the cases, his remarks underscore growing unease about the pattern emerging across multiple incidents.
The NNSA confirmed it is “aware of reports related to employees of our labs, plants, and sites and is looking into” the deaths, suicides, and disappearances of individuals tied to its operations.
Foreign Threat Concerns and Growing Pattern
According to reports, officials have previously noted unusual activity at sensitive facilities, including instances where foreign nationals allegedly attempted to gain access or information.
Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO), a member of the House Oversight Committee, has suggested that foreign adversaries such as China, Russia, or Iran could potentially be involved.
The pattern now includes at least 11 cases since 2022 involving scientists, engineers, and officials connected to classified programs, further fueling calls for a comprehensive federal investigation.
Whistleblower Death Intensifies Pressure
The issue escalated after the “sudden and suspicious” death of Matthew James Sullivan, a former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer who was preparing to testify before Congress about alleged UFO-related programs.
According to reports, Sullivan, 39, died on May 12, 2024, under circumstances that remain unclear.
Initial reports described the death as a suicide, but no official cause has been publicly confirmed.
Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) has raised concerns about the case, writing to FBI Director Kash Patel that:
“The sudden and suspicious circumstances surrounding his death raise significant concerns about potential foul play and the safety of other individuals involved in this matter.”
The lack of transparency surrounding Sullivan’s death has become a focal point for lawmakers demanding answers.
Congress and White House Step In
Burlison is now working with House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) to push for broader federal action.
According to reports, lawmakers are preparing additional requests for investigations into multiple cases, citing concerns that the incidents may be connected.
The situation has now reached the highest levels of government.
President Donald Trump confirmed that the White House is actively investigating the deaths and disappearances.
“I hope it’s random, but we’re going to know in the next week and a half,” Trump said.
“I just left a meeting on that subject.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also confirmed a coordinated federal response.
“The White House is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to holistically review all of the cases together and identify any potential commonalities that may exist,” she said.
“No stone will be unturned in this effort.”
Questions Mount as Cases Remain Unresolved
The growing list of cases, including the disappearance of retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William “Neil” McCasland has intensified scrutiny over what many see as a troubling pattern tied to highly sensitive government work.
Despite official statements, key details remain unknown, including causes of death, potential links between cases, and what information some of the individuals may have possessed.
As federal investigators dig deeper, the warning from a former top nuclear official is clear: the full story may be far more complex than it appears.
