The term ‘sanctuary cities’ should be used lightly. Democrats are trying to get away with simply saying they are sanctuary cities without having to actually be sanctuary cities. As proof, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and New York City Mayor Eric Adams are furious that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has bused nearly 1,500 migrants to New York City since August 5th, and 7,400 to Washington, DC since April.
“The majority coming in are believed to not have valid asylum claims, are bypassing federal immigration law, and instead of being deported are being released into the U.S. under new Biden administration policies, attorneys general who’ve sued the administration argue” reports The Center Square.
Of the roughly 5,000 migrants crossing the border that agents encounter in Texas everyday, Abbott says he is shipping them to the sanctuary cities instead of overwhelming the border communities. Operation Lone Star was initiated in March 2021 and “continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration’s refusal to secure the border,” Abbott said.
“Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Biden’s open border policies.”
Roughly 5 million people from over 150 countries have entered the U.S. illegally, including “gotaways,” since Biden took office, according to data published by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and information provided by a Border Patrol agent to The Center Square. Biden’s Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has significantly altered federal immigration policies, making it much easier, and without consequence, to enter the United States illegally.
Texas had over 100,000 apprehensions last month alone. The numbers exclude the tens of thousands of “gotaways” who evaded law enforcement as they entered Texas illegally in between ports of entry.
