The House Passes H.R. 6090: A Threat to the Christian Faith and an Affront to Free Speech

The United States House of Representatives has passed H.R. 6090, a bill that criminalizes basic Biblical Truth. This alarming legislation seeks to weaponize the Civil Rights Act for the enforcement of federal anti-discrimination laws, thus having a chilling effect on the free speech of Christians across the nation.

The bill adopts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of “antisemitism” which includes the basic Biblical truth that the Jews killed Jesus Christ as “classic antisemitism.” The bill’s passage has raised serious concerns among Christians who believe that their First Amendment rights are being threatened. For example H.R. 6090 could potentially make it a crime for pastors to preach sermons that adhere to Biblical teachings, such as 1 Thessalonians 2:15, which explicitly states that the Jews killed Jesus.

As a result, churches may become targets for Civil Rights Act discrimination lawsuits, leading to a wave of anti-Christian sentiment and the stifling of religious expression. The New Testament provides ample evidence that the Jews killed Jesus. Here are a few key passages that illustrate this point:

Matthew 27:22-26 (King James Version): Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

In this passage, we see the Jewish people demanding Jesus’ crucifixion, even after Pilate, the Roman governor, found no fault in Him. The people’s response, “His blood be on us, and on our children,” signifies their acceptance of responsibility for Jesus’ death.

Acts 2:22-23 (King James Version): Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.

In this passage from Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost, he addresses the Jews and holds them accountable for Jesus’ crucifixion. In response to this sermon, thousands of Jews repented and became Christians that day. This shows us the importance of speaking this Biblical truth boldly.

Acts 4:10-12 (King James Version): Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

In this passage, Peter and John are addressing the Jewish authorities and again affirm that Jesus was crucified by the Jews. They also emphasize that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone, who was rejected and crucified by the very people He came to save.

The Jews’ role in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a biblical truth that we must affirm and acknowledge, regardless of the laws and pressures of the world around us. As Christians, we are called to uphold and obey the truths of God’s Word, even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. By doing so, we demonstrate our faithfulness to God and our commitment to the salvation found in Jesus Christ alone.

The passage of H.R. 6090 raises questions about the true motives behind this legislation. Some have speculated that the recent surge in anti-Israel protests on college campuses, many of which are being led and organized by Jews, are being used to bolster public support and sympathy for Israel and usher in anti-Christian legislation like H.R. 6090. This would be a grave disservice to the principles of free speech and religious expression that America was founded upon.

Unfortunately, many pastors have chosen to ignore the implications of bills like H.R. 6090, allowing the bill to pass without raising their voices in opposition. This silence is not only a disservice to their congregations and the Church itself, but also a missed opportunity to defend the Biblical truths that have guided Christians for centuries.

As a Christian Nationalist and the CEO of Gab, a social media platform committed to free speech principles, I strongly oppose any legislation that seeks to silence the voices of Christians and undermine our First Amendment rights. It is our responsibility as Christians to stand up for our beliefs and call out those who would use fear and censorship to suppress the truth–especially the Truth of God’s Word.

I urge all Christians to speak out against H.R. 6090 and any other legislation that threatens our religious freedom. We must not allow our government to dictate what we can and cannot say about our faith. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 2:15, “For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, for you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind.”

Let us boldly and unapologetically proclaim the truth of God’s Word, even in the face of opposition and adversity.
