Far from challenging Israel’s actions, Trump has cozied up to figures like Rep. Randy Fine, a Florida Republican who has openly celebrated Palestinian suffering. Fine, in vile remarks, mocked starving Palestinians, declaring on social media that their hunger was “natural justice” and that Gaza should be “flattened.” Trump, rather than denouncing this despicable rhetoric, gushed over Fine’s endorsement, praising him as a “great friend” and “patriot” at a recent rally. This alignment exposes Trump’s complicity in the moral bankruptcy of Israel’s genocidal campaign, as he prioritizes political alliances over the lives of Palestinian civilians.
While Trump reportedly told a Jewish donor that his MAGA base is growing “hostile” toward Israel due to graphic imagery of Gaza’s devastation, his supposed concern rings hollow. His administration’s ties to Israel remain ironclad, with no meaningful action to halt the flow of bombs used to kill Palestinian children or address the out-in-the-open genocide. Even when Trump acknowledged Gaza’s “real starvation” during a Scotland press conference, contradicting Netanyahu’s lies, he stopped short of condemning Israel’s deliberate targeting of civilians or the U.S.’s role in arming the slaughter. His words are empty gestures, meant to placate critics while ensuring the genocide continues unabated.
Meanwhile, voices within Trump’s far-right base, like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have called Gaza’s crisis a “genocide” and pushed to end U.S. aid to Israel—legislation swiftly crushed by Congress. Far-right podcaster Candace Owens has also questioned the “disgusting, perverse” U.S.-Israel relationship, reflecting growing discontent among young Republicans. Yet Trump, ever the opportunist, refuses to challenge the Zionist agenda, choosing instead to prop up Israel’s war machine while ignoring the blood of Palestinian children on his hands. His failure to address the genocide head-on, coupled with his embrace of figures like Fine, reveals a leader devoid of empathy, tethered to Israel’s interests, and complicit in one of the most egregious atrocities of our time.
