President Donald Trump has announced that he will ask the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling upholding birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal immigrants and temporary visitors.

Trump revealed the move in a Wednesday post on Truth Social, blasting the decision as “absolutely insane.”

The president said the ruling is already being exploited by people seeking to profit from foreigners traveling to the United States to give birth.

“Signs and Billboards are being put up all over our Southern Border, and Mexico, advertising BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP, with ‘Deliveries starting at $4000,’” Trump wrote.

“Likewise, similar signs going up all over our Country.

“Billions of Dollars will be illegally made by this SCAM, with Citizenship going to anyone willing to pay.

“I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY.

“This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision,” he added.

The president’s request comes after the court’s 6-3 ruling dealt a major blow to his administration’s effort to limit automatic citizenship.

Trump Warns Ruling Will Be Exploited

Trump argued that the decision will encourage a new wave of abuse at the southern border and beyond.

His post focused on what critics have long described as birth tourism, where foreign nationals travel to the United States so their children can receive citizenship by being born on American soil.

The president said signs and billboards are already appearing near the border and in Mexico advertising U.S. citizenship through childbirth.

Trump warned that the ruling would create a lucrative market for people willing to sell access to American citizenship.

The Supreme Court’s rules allow the losing party to file a petition for rehearing within 25 days of a ruling being issued.

However, a majority of justices would have to agree to rehear the case before the decision could be reconsidered.

That makes rehearing an uphill battle.

Still, Trump made clear that his administration is not dropping the fight.

Supreme Court Sides with Birthright Citizenship

The court handed down the 6-3 decision on the final day of its session.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion.

Roberts said children born on U.S. soil “to parents unlawfully or temporarily present” are “citizens at birth” under the 14th Amendment.

The ruling preserves the current interpretation of birthright citizenship and blocks Trump’s effort to restrict automatic citizenship through executive action.

The decision immediately sparked criticism from conservatives, many of whom argue that the 14th Amendment has been misread for decades.

Critics say the amendment was never intended to grant automatic citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants or foreign nationals temporarily present in the country.

The ruling has now forced conservatives to consider what legal path remains available.

Conservatives Consider Next Steps

Some conservatives have argued that a constitutional amendment may be necessary to end birthright citizenship as currently applied.

Others have pointed to openings in the opinions of justices who sided with the majority.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh joined the majority but did not go as far as to say the Constitution permanently enshrines birthright citizenship in all disputed circumstances.

Kavanaugh argued in a concurring opinion that Trump’s error was attempting to impose limits by executive order.

However, he suggested such limits might be imposed through an act of Congress.

That argument has drawn attention from Republicans looking for a way to revive the fight legislatively.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has said Republicans are exploring a legislative push in response to the ruling.

So far, there has been no public progress on such a bill.

Birthright Citizenship Fight Continues

Trump’s rehearing request keeps birthright citizenship at the center of the national immigration debate.

The issue has long been a flashpoint for conservatives who argue that automatic citizenship creates incentives for illegal immigration, birth tourism, and abuse of the immigration system.

The Supreme Court’s ruling protects the current system for now.

But Trump’s response shows that the political and legal fight is far from over.

The president is framing the decision as a direct threat to border security and national sovereignty.

Republicans now face a choice over whether to continue the fight through the courts, pursue legislation, or seek a constitutional amendment.

For Trump, the Supreme Court must take another look before the ruling becomes a permanent green light for ongoing citizenship “SCAM.”
