Earlier on Wednesday, Trump told New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman that a report from Trump ally John Solomon in Just the News, claiming that prosecutors informed him of a likely indictment, was “not true.”
“Trump tells me minutes ago he has NOT been told he’s getting indicted, when contacted. ‘It’s not true,’ he said, adding again he hasn’t done anything wrong,” Haberman tweeted.
“When I asked if he had been told he’s a target, he demurred, saying he doesn’t talk directly to prosecutors,” she added.
Trump statement came amid a report from one of his allies that he has been told this. NYT, CNN, WaPo and other outlets have all reported federal officials have been building toward a likely indictment, including with witnesses in Miami before a grand jury today.

Before he responded to the reports directly, Trump quoted one line from Solomon’s report suggesting experts were siding with his contention that he had broad authority to declassify documents.
“‘An American Bar Association report in 2022 seemed to agree with Trump’s assertion that ‘guidelines support his contention that presidents have broad authority to formally declassify,'” he wrote.
Solomon cited an unnamed source familiar with special counsel Jack Smith’s classified documents investigation and said an indictment could be delivered as soon as this week.
Recent reports have said Smith’s investigation is nearing its end and that a decision will be delivered soon, though no timetable was given.
