The Synod of Szabolcs, convened in the Kingdom of Hungary and addressing the ecclesiastical governance of Wallachian territories, issued canon seven. The canon forbade specific funeral rites being performed by Wallachian communities to prevent the dead from returning. Not to honor the dead. Not to mourn them. To stop them from coming back. That is what the canon was written to address.
