It’s official. Elon Musk’s takeover bid offer has been agreed to by the Twitter board of directors.
Twitter shares halted trading pending news of the sale.
The offer of $54.20 per share, or a total price of $44 billion was accepted by the board as it acted in the best interest of the shareholders in accepting the bid.
Musk tweeted this message from his Twitter account,
“I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means”

In a press release report from The Verge, Twitter announced the acceptance of the $44 billion offer.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” said Musk in a statement included with the release. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.”
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal also applauded the deal in the release. “Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world,” Agrawal said in an accompanying statement. “Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important.”
There are some of us who have felt free speech has not really been the mission of the ‘digital town square’ Twitter’s press release purports their mission to be. For many truthers who have been suspended after voicing opinions contrary to the liberal agenda, or for those who are auto banned by AI, it is clear, the platform has not been fully involved in embracing free speech.
After the purchase announcement was made today, Fox News reported, former President Trump will not be returning to Twitter.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
He added: “The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”
Hopefully, the change in ownership will result in a clear movement from within to become a more ‘vital’ platform where issues are truly debated and discussed openly. It is even possible this purchase could influence other social media platforms to moderate their censorship policies and practices.
Perhaps the next platform ripe for takeover could be Facebook?
