China has for many years allowed toxic foods to leave its border. Heavy metals and glyphosate are troubling. Lower prices can be any easy trap to fall in, with today’s hyperinflation. Food inspection is non-existent in China and the US government can only examine about 2 to 3% of all imports. Therefore, reading labels to where food is sourced is extremely important.
Here are some common foods to avoid. The first one on the list is rice. Sometimes the rice may contain plastic. Yes you heard me right-plastic. Sometimes it is a combination of potatoes and industrial resin. That seems like it would be difficult to digest.
The next food to avoid is farm raised fish, especially tilapia and cod. Again reading labels is critical. The bags will sometimes have on there, PRC (Peoples Republic of China) or Pacific caught. Farmers use antibiotics and growth hormones to keep fish alive. At times these fish are bathing in raw sewage!
Cheap apple juice should also be avoided. Fifty percent of this popular breakfast drink, comes from China. It can be loaded with pesticides, arsenic and heavy metals. One brand name product from this country is Mott’s. I highly recommend to buy organic. Do you want to give your child a juice loaded with these contaminants?
The next food caught me off guard, chicken. The USDA, since 2013, has allowed antibiotics and growth hormones. United States suppliers are being allowed to export domestically chicken all the way to China to be processed and shipped back here. Buy chicken from local farmers or organic.
Peas, soybeans and corn are the next crops to consider, especially if canned or frozen. Some producers add sodium cyclamate to add sweetness to corn. This chemical is banned in the US.
Mushrooms are next on the list. Imported mushrooms from China, are coated with harmful pesticide residues such as glyphosate. Most come in can form, but fresh ones are making it to the US market, especially shiitake ones. Similarly garlic is often bleached in methyl bromide, a toxin that causes respiratory problems and central nervous toxicity. Check labels to see if grown domestically!
Last we have salt, sodium chloride. Imported Chinese salt may contain industrial salt, which causes increased cardiac risk and can be mixed with table salt. Edible salt is approximately 10 times more expensive than industrial, making counterfeiting profitable.
Some common thoughts & solutions, to think about when shopping. According to the South China morning Post, 70% of all rivers and lakes are polluted from industrial waste. One thing to consider is always buy organic or local. Non-GMO is ok, but even they may contain high levels of pesticides or heavy metals, but still better than GMO grown foods.
Read ingredients carefully. If you can’t pronounce it, then it is probably best to avoid. Always see where the food is sourced. Stop using high fructose corn syrup, bleached four, seed oils, trans-fats, GMO foods, food coloring and preservatives. Remember also, that lettuce, kale, and herbs can be grown hydroponically in your own house!
