Jussie Smollett Verdict Is In, Guilty on 5 out of 6 Charges!

Dec. 9, 2021 After 1 day of deliberation, a jury has found Jussie Smollett guilty on 5 out of 6 charges of disorderly conduct for lying to the Chicago Police Department. He is facing a maximum of 3 years in prison for each count. In January 2019, Smollett staged a hate crime against himself. He told the Chicago Police Department that at 2AM two men violently attacked him and used racist and homophobic slurs against him. He said they beat him, threw bleach at him, tied a noose around his neck, and shouted “MAGA Country”, an apparent reference to President Trump’s campaign slogan. This cost the city over $100,000 in taxpayer money, and three weeks of exhaustive investigation by 26 dedicated Chicago police officers. Although the case was quickly dropped in March 2019, a grand jury returned a 6 count indictment against Smollett in February 2020.

Special Prosecutor, Dan Webb, took the case against Smollett free of charge as a service to the public in hopes that his work could help restore faith in the justice system. He says he’s very happy with the jury’s decision, despite the many lies told by Smollett, including the most ridiculous tale of him going to buy eggs at 2AM the morning he was attacked. The Jury listened to the many testimonies provided by the Chicago police and also viewed damning photographic evidence which showed that Smollett not only put the rope around his own neck but also tightened it himself.

Smollett’s lead defense attorney, Nenye Uche is planning on appealing. He blames negative news coverage from the last three years for the jury’s decision to convict Smollett.
