The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced on Wednesday that a farmworker has been infected with bird flu linked to cows, making the second known case in the U.S.

The department said he had mild symptoms and recovered.

“The current health risk to the general public remains low,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s top health official, said in a news release. “We have not seen signs of sustained human-to-human transmission at this point. This is exactly how public health is meant to work, in early detection and monitoring of new and emerging illnesses.”

A federal health briefing will reportedly be held to address the issue on Wednesday.
