1/ PREQUEL: BEFORE WE BEGIN…
Before you read my deep dive into lil Mo Movassaghi (self proclaimed Truthteller ), Ali Ghaziani and Valerio Moda, I found something that takes us right back to the beginning.
August 16, 2010.
Photographer Jonathan Cruz published his campaign shoot for Valerio Moda’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, naming Ali under his then-professional name, Ali Mokhtarian. The shoot took place at Vancouver’s Sugar Studios, with Dan Ax credited for the video and behind-the-scenes stills.
And those images survived.
So did a video clip containing photographs from that exact shoot.
And there, behind the scenes, are Ali and Mo, together at Valerio Moda in 2010.
I’m attaching the clip (I’ve posted it before, and before you ask, it’s still available on YouTube) and Cruz’s photographs, and linking his original page so you can see the provenance for yourselves.

And now that we’ve found the beginning…
Let’s walk through what happened next.
2/ So clearly, and as promised, I’ve been digging into Mohammad Movassaghi (@truthtellerfm) and his involvement with Vancouver fashion label Valerio Moda, founded by designer Ali Ghaziani (Note: His former professional name was Ali Mokhtarian).
Valerio was Ali’s passion project. He founded Hirad Leather in 2007, later transforming it into Valerio Moda, with Ali as its designer and creative force.
Contemporary fashion coverage, however, describes Movassaghi as Ali’s business partner and someone who launched Valerio Moda alongside him.
More importantly, Canadian financial-regulatory records independently confirm Movassaghi was a director and “silent partner” of Valerio Design Inc.
This becomes particularly interesting because Movassaghi was simultaneously working in financial services.
When his employer approved Valerio as an outside business activity, there were conditions intended to keep the two worlds separate. Yet regulatory proceedings later revealed that a Valerio co-director and shareholder, identified as “AG,” became Movassaghi’s investment client, a relationship his branch manager testified had not been disclosed.
I have good information that AG was Ali Ghaziani, although the regulatory decision itself anonymises him, so I’m keeping that distinction clear.
Meanwhile, Movassaghi’s financial career spectacularly unravelled: findings involving falsified client signatures, misleading investigators, dismissal for cause, substantial penalties and ultimately a permanent prohibition from IIROC registration.
BC corporate records I located showed Valerio Moda Inc. underwent corporate restoration in 2016 and was ultimately dissolved in 2023.
Ali has since re-emerged with his son Hirad and The House of Ghaziani, taking his designs all the way to Milan Fashion Week.
So what happened to Valerio, and what role, if any, did Movassaghi play in Ali losing or leaving his original passion project?
3/ One detail deserves its own spotlight.
When Movassaghi disclosed Valerio as an outside business activity, his financial-services employer specifically required that Valerio directors/clients not become his investment clients without disclosure.
Yet regulatory proceedings later identified “AG,” a Valerio co-director and shareholder, as Movassaghi’s client, a relationship his branch manager said was never disclosed.
Business partner. Co-director. Financial adviser.
Keep that relationship in mind.
4/ Here’s where Valerio’s corporate history gets interesting.
Valerio Design Inc. didn’t simply fade away. BC records show it was dissolved on August 25, 2014.
Yet Ali continued designing and operating publicly under the Valerio name.
Then, more than TWO YEARS later, on November 2, 2016, Valerio Design Inc. was fully restored.
Someone went to the trouble of resurrecting a legally dissolved corporation.
Who applied to restore it, and why?

5/ Now add another layer.
Movassaghi wasn’t merely Ali’s Valerio business partner and co-director. He also became financial adviser to “AG,” a Valerio co-director and shareholder.
His employer had specifically conditioned approval of his Valerio involvement on people associated with the company NOT becoming his clients without disclosure.
Yet AG did.
And Movassaghi didn’t disclose it. The regulatory panel found this prevented his employer from addressing the resulting conflict of interest.
Business partner.
Co-director/shareholder.
Financial adviser.
Three relationships, between the same two men.
6/ So, where does this leave us?
The documented facts tell us Ali was Valerio’s founder, designer and creative force. Movassaghi was his business partner, a director and “silent partner.” Regulatory records also show a Valerio co-director/shareholder, “AG,” became Movassaghi’s financial-services client, despite conditions requiring that relationship to be disclosed. It wasn’t.
Then things get curious.
Valerio Design Inc. was dissolved in 2014, despite the brand continuing. Someone resurrected the corporation with a FULL restoration in November 2016. Years later, it was allowed to die again, finally dissolving in October 2023.
My working theory?
Something happened behind the scenes that fundamentally changed Ali’s relationship with Valerio and/or Movassaghi.
I do NOT yet have evidence that lil Mo Movassaghi defrauded Ali, took his company or forced him out, and I’m not going to manufacture that conclusion.
But I also don’t think the documented relationship between these men was incidental.
Ali supplied the talent and identity behind Valerio. Mo occupied the business/corporate side while also becoming financial adviser to a fellow Valerio shareholder whom I believe was Ali.
Today, Valerio is dead.
Ali, however, isn’t.
He rebuilt under his own family name, alongside his son, and took that work to Milan Fashion Week.
Perhaps that was simply evolution.
Perhaps there’s a considerably more complicated story about how Valerio ended.
7/ So, where does this leave Mo & Ali?
We can’t date the end of their business relationship precisely, but we can bracket it.
Ali’s fashion business predates Mo: Hirad Leather Design Inc. was incorporated in 2007. Around 2010, it became Valerio Design Inc/Valerio Moda, with contemporary reporting saying Ali and Mo launched Valerio together.
By 2011, Ali was described as working in a Valerio “partnership.”
On April 17, 2013, Mo formally disclosed Valerio to his investment employer, describing himself as a “silent partner and director” who also performed consulting duties. Months later, Fashion Week coverage explicitly identified him as Ali Mokhtarian’s business partner.
In 2014, Valerio was still described as a co-founded venture.
Then the trail changes.
Mo disappears from Valerio’s documented public story. Ali doesn’t.
By 2017, Ali was still designing under Valerio, including his extraordinary leatherwork on Bono’s Joshua Tree Tour jacket. In 2020, he incorporated the separate Ghaziani Creations Inc., later building Ghaziani with his son Hirad.
Curiously, the old Valerio Design Inc. remained legally alive until October 2023.
So my best evidence-based estimate is that Mo and Ali were in business together from roughly 2010 until sometime after 2014, perhaps considerably longer. Without the historical directors register, I won’t invent an exit date.
But the trajectory is fairly clear:
Mo appears to have joined Ali’s pre-existing fashion enterprise for its Valerio chapter. He became a genuine director and business partner, while Ali was the designer and craftsman.
Then Mo disappears, while Ali, his work and the company continue without him.
And there’s an intriguing bit of historical revisionism in Ali’s modern biography: Valerio is now described as his “first independent brand” and even a “one-man show.” That’s difficult to square literally with contemporary records documenting Mo as director, silent partner and business partner. Perhaps Ali means the creative work was essentially a one-man operation. Either way, Mo has been conspicuously edited out of the modern origin story.
That looks much less like Valerio simply failed and much more like a business partnership came to an end.
Why? Neither man appears to have left us that answer. The evidence can show us what happened. It can’t tell us why.
8/ One final point, because context matters.
I cannot currently prove Movassaghi defrauded Ali Ghaziani, misappropriated Valerio, or caused its demise.
But I’m also not speculating about Mo’s broader conduct in a vacuum.
We know FOR SURE that regulators found Movassaghi falsified client signatures and records, processed transactions without proper authorisation, failed to disclose conflicts of interest and misled investigators.
In one case, he forged a client’s signature using her driver’s licence as a guide. A BC court later upheld his dismissal, finding that his conduct fundamentally breached the trust and consent at the heart of financial services.
These aren’t rumours. They’re documented findings.
We also know he was Ali’s business partner and Valerio co-director, while simultaneously servicing the investment accounts of a Valerio co-director/shareholder I have good information was Ali himself, despite disclosure conditions surrounding that relationship.
So can I conclude Mo did something improper to Ali or Valerio?
No. Not yet.
Can I reasonably ask whether a man with this documented history of dishonesty, undisclosed conflicts and overriding clients’ financial autonomy may have behaved similarly inside another intertwined financial/business relationship?
Absolutely.
That is an inference worth investigating, not a fact I’m prepared to manufacture.
There’s a difference.
And somewhere between Ali building Valerio, Mo becoming embedded in both his business and financial affairs, Valerio twice dissolving, and Ali ultimately rebuilding under his own name, there is a missing chapter.
I want the receipts for that chapter, but I don’t have them, and I’m not sure I will ever find them. Trust me, I’ve dug!
