Tehran rejected US President Donald Trump’s latest allegations that Iranian officials are seeking a ceasefire, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei deeming the statement “false and baseless” on 1 April.
“Trump’s claim that Iran has requested a ceasefire is false and baseless,” Baghaei said.
The remarks came in response to Trump claiming in a Truth Social post that Tehran had “just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!”
He added that the US would “consider” and end hostilities only after reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran continues to assert control over.

Baghaei’s response is the latest in a long line of false claims portraying the war as nearing its end, following weeks of shifting statements by Trump since the US and Israel launched their attack.
Throughout March, Trump had repeatedly declared the war on Iran to be effectively won or nearing its end, on no less than 14 separate occasions between early March and 1 April, according to compiled reports.
These statements ranged from early assertions on 2 March that the operation was a “complete success” and that the US would “prevail easily,” to claims later that month that “we won this war” and that Iran had been “essentially decimated.”
Trump repeatedly said the war would end “very soon” or “pretty quickly,” at one point claiming there was “practically nothing else to target,” and in late March said that Iran was practically “begging” to negotiate a deal.
Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected claims of victory or requests for cessation, insisting that any end to the war will be dictated solely by Tehran’s terms.
“Iran will end the war when it decides,” officials said, rejecting US ceasefire proposals as one-sided and reiterating that no negotiations will take place until their conditions are met, including an end to attacks, guarantees against future aggression, and reparations.
