President Donald Trump revealed Tuesday that he came within roughly an hour of authorizing military strikes against Iran before pausing the operation to give the regime one final opportunity to negotiate a deal.

Speaking to reporters near the White House ballroom construction site, Trump said Iran knew the United States was preparing to attack and warned that the regime now has only a limited window to avoid devastating consequences.

“The Iranian regime knew I was getting ready to attack,” Trump said.

“I was an hour away from making the decision to go today, and we would probably not be talking about a beautiful ballroom today, we’d be talking about that.”

Trump Warns Iran Time Is Running Out

President Trump said he informed Iranian officials they would receive only “two or three days” to produce an acceptable peace agreement before U.S. military operations could resume.

“I told them, two or three days, maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday, something, maybe early next week, a limited period of time,” Trump said.

The president made clear that the administration views a nuclear-armed Iran as completely unacceptable.

“We can’t let them have a new nuclear weapon,” Trump said.

“If they had a nuclear weapon, they would start with Israel, they would blow it up, and they would blow it up fast.”

Trump also warned Iran would likely target Gulf allies, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, after Israel.

Trump Suspended Planned Strike After Gulf Leaders Intervened

The comments came one day after President Trump revealed on Truth Social that he had halted a pre-planned military strike against Iran because “serious negotiations” were underway.

Trump said leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar personally urged him to delay the attack.

The president also disclosed that he instructed the U.S. military to remain fully prepared for a “full, large-scale assault of Iran” at a moment’s notice if negotiations collapse.

Trump had not publicly disclosed the planned Tuesday strike prior to Monday’s announcement.

For weeks, the president has warned Iran that the ceasefire reached in April would not survive indefinitely without a broader agreement.

“For Iran, the Clock is Ticking,” Trump warned over the weekend.

“They better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them.”

Iran Issues Fresh Threats as Regional Tensions Escalate

Meanwhile, Iran and its regional allies continue escalating threats against the United States and its allies.

Iranian state-run media outlet Tasnim News Agency reported Monday that Iranian military officials warned any renewed U.S. attack would trigger broader regional conflict.

“If our enemies commit another mistake, we will confront them with power and capabilities far greater,” Iranian General Ali Abdollahi said in comments carried by the outlet.

Iran-backed groups in Iraq have also reportedly launched drone attacks targeting Gulf states during the conflict.

The situation intensified further after a drone strike on Sunday sparked a fire near the UAE’s lone nuclear power facility in what Emirati officials described as an “unprovoked terrorist attack.”

Oil Prices Surge Amid Strait of Hormuz Threats

The escalating tensions are already sending shockwaves through global energy markets.

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints, has been severely disrupted since the conflict intensified.

As of Tuesday, Brent crude oil prices had surged past $110 per barrel, while U.S. gas prices climbed above $4.50 per gallon nationally.

President Trump has also recently spoken with Benjamin Netanyahu and Xi Jinping regarding the growing crisis.

The administration has continued emphasizing that Iran’s nuclear ambitions remain one of the most dangerous national security threats facing the United States and its allies.
