Five US Air Force aerial refueling aircraft were damaged during an Iranian missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on 14 March.
Citing US officials, the report states the aircraft were hit on the ground in recent days, sustaining damage but not being destroyed, with no casualties reported.
The officials said the tankers are undergoing repairs, while US Central Command (CENTCOM) declined to comment on the incident.
Prince Sultan Air Base is a Saudi military facility located in the Riyadh province that serves as a major hub for US forces, hosting US Air Force units, aerial refueling aircraft, and advanced air defense systems such as Patriot and THAAD.
The strike raises the total number of US refueling aircraft damaged or destroyed in the war on Iran to at least seven, following a separate incident in Iraq earlier this week when two KC-135 refueling aircraft were reportedly hit by local resistance factions.

According to CENTCOM, one of the aircraft crashed in western Iraq, killing all 6 crewmen on board, while the second managed to land safely.
“The circumstances of the incident are under investigation,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on X, claiming that “the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.”
Contradicting the WSJ report, US President Donald Trump claimed that four of the five US Air Force refueling aircraft struck suffered “virtually no damage” and had already returned to service.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said one aircraft sustained slightly heavier damage but “will be in the air shortly,” while criticizing US media reports, including the WSJ, for reporting otherwise.

The Iranian strike came as part of Tehran’s retaliation campaign targeting US military infrastructure across West Asia following the launch of Operation Epic Fury on 28 February, when US and Israeli forces began attacks on Iranian territory.
US-Israeli strikes targeted military, political, economic, and civilian infrastructure across Iran, and have so far killed over 1,348 people, including at least 193 children, and wounded more than 17,000 inside Iran.
