Iran announced on 10 June its latest retaliatory missile and drone operations launched against US military assets in the Gulf and Jordan, following Washington’s newest strikes on the Islamic Republic.

Washington struck Iran in response to what it claimed was the downing of a US helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

“In response to the aggression of the US terrorist army in areas in the south of the country under the false pretext of the downing of their helicopter, some US bases in the region were targeted by a powerful attack,” the Iranian military announced on Wednesday.

“The criminal US army must know that if it repeats aggression against the Islamic Republic … more severe and widespread attacks will be carried out against the bank of targets set in the region,” it added.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which took part in the operations alongside the Iranian army, said “four important targets” were destroyed, including F-35 hangars and a command-and-control center in the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

The IRGC said its naval forces hit 21 targets across the region and added that it downed a US MQ-9 drone over the city of Jam in Iran’s Bushehr province.

Iran also said it bombarded the US Fifth Fleet and its radar systems in Bahrain.

There were overnight reports of strikes targeting Kuwait as well, although they have not been confirmed or announced.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry released a statement on Wednesday condemning Washington’s “savage” attacks on areas in the country’s south.

“Iran, in exercising the inherent right of legitimate self-defense, delivered severe strikes against US bases and assets in the region,” the statement added, calling on all countries of the region to “prevent any use by the terrorist US military and the Zionist regime of their territory and facilities for planning, organizing, executing, and supporting aggressive actions against Iran.”

Tehran “will not hesitate” in responding to US attacks originating from bases in the region.

The US strikes hit Iran early on Wednesday. One targeted critical civilian infrastructure along Iran’s southern coastline, destroying two primary water storage tanks in the Bemani area of Sirik Country in Hormozgan province, according to IRIB.

According to the CEO of Hormozgan province’s water and wastewater company, the US hit a 500 cubic meter tank and a 2,000 cubic meter tank, which both play a key role in supplying drinking water to Sirik.

Multiple waves of strikes also hit Bandar Abbas, Jask, and Qeshm Island.

The US announced it was carrying out attacks on Iran in response to the alleged downing of its Apache helicopter on Monday night.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it “began launching self-defense strikes against Iran … in response to yesterday’s downing of a US Army Apache helicopter. The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.”

Tehran has denied shooting down the US Apache.

“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump said before Washington’s attacks on Iran.

Iran has continued to double down on its terms since the announcement of the April truce – which Washington has repeatedly violated through airstrikes and a blockade of Iranian ports.

The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to Washington and Tel Aviv, and Iran is working with Oman to establish a post-war mechanism to manage the strategic waterway – while disregarding US threats on the matter.

Tehran also wants full sanctions removal, unfreezing of blocked assets, and a scale-back of US military presence in the region – particularly in the Gulf countries neighboring it.

Another main Iranian term is a full ceasefire in Lebanon, where Hezbollah is resisting an invasion, occupation, and a campaign of brutal Israeli airstrikes.

After an Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital on Sunday, Iran targeted Israel with a ballistic missile attack.

It fired over a dozen missiles at Israel, prompting Tel Aviv to launch heavy attacks on the Islamic Republic on Monday morning. Iran responded with more missile attacks targeting Israeli military sites.

Tehran has warned that continued violations in Lebanon and elsewhere will be met with harsher retaliation.

“Iran’s strategy is to simultaneously pursue war and diplomacy to defend the rights of the Iranian nation,” Iranian Parliament Speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in comments released on 9 June.
